I loved this novel, in spite of its length and the foul language. It reminded me a lot of Catcher in the Rye, but without the whiny, spoiled attitude of the main character. Karl actually had a lot more to be whiny about than Holden did, but he never would have stooped that low. It’s an amazing “coming-of-age” novel, complete with real angst and real problems, but it’s more about the power of friends and realizing that even though it feels like it sometimes, we are never all alone in this world.
