In this fun-filled book, 15-year old Belly does not consider herself pretty...that is, until this summer. Her mother and father have been divorced for several years. Her mom’s best friend, Susannah, has two sons, Conrad and Jeremiah, and is fighting breast cancer. Every year, Susannah has invited Belly, her older brother Steven, and Belly’s mom to spend the summer at her beach house. Belly has had a crush on Conrad ever since they were little and has been best friends with Jeremiah for the last few years. This summer, she is upset about the fact that Conrad is ignoring her, that he’s changed, and that he’s been getting drunk a lot lately. On the other hand, Jeremiah has been there for Belly, made her laugh when she was crying, watched a chick flick with her when she went to the movies, and as always, has just been her best friend. Cam, a nice boy that she meets, is her first summer fling. This summer, Belly has been noticing the way that people look at her--especially Conrad and Jeremiah--and she begins to think that the physical changes that have been taking place in her have been good. At the end of the summer, Belly discovers what’s really going on with Susannah and why Conrad has been acting so different this summer. She finally gets the courage to figure out who she is and who she really wants to be with.
