This was the “2009 On the Same Page” selection for the Cincinnati Public Library as well as the February selection of the Finneytown HS Book Club. I really liked the story, in spite of some very depressing moments, because it ultimately leaves you feeling hopeful. Obviously, there are many homeless and mentally ill people living on the streets that don’t get any help because they’re not talented virtuosos. However, the fact that one man was able to get the help he needed because another man saw his potential is pretty amazing. We had a really good discussion about this book during our HS Book Club meeting and at my neighborhood Book Club meeting.
Recommended for grades 9-12.
