Although this is a very long book that could have been condensed or edited down to a more reasonable length, I enjoyed it and found it to be a refreshing spin on a familiar tale. The shadow weaving component is intriguing, and I found myself cheering for Suzume even when I was hoping that she would give up her desperate quest for revenge. The fact that she is a “cutter” makes this novel accessible to 21st century American teens even though it is set in feudal Japan.
