Clary has been raised as a mundane (aka human) rather than the Shadowhunter that she is because her mother has wanted to shield her from the world of demon-hunting. When Clary comes into contact with some Shadowhunters at a club for teens, her world is turned upside down and life as she knows it will never be the same. Her mother is kidnapped by an evil mastermind who, as it turns out, is her father, and Jace--with whom she has a powerful attraction--is her brother. Will Clary’s desire to get her mother back be enough to keep her alive in the face of demon infestations and egomaniacs who want to destroy the world? And what will happen to her lifelong friend, Simon? Will his love for Clary be enough?
I don’t want to give too much away, so that will have to do for now. There will be at least one more book in this series, City of Fallen Angels, and another series that will act as a prequel to the Mortal Instruments series, according to the author’s website. I can’t wait. At first, I only read these books because Ms. Neher recommended them. I was easily sucked into this strange and exotic world, though, and couldn’t stop reading until all three books were finished. I was DELIGHTED by a turn of events in book 3 that I had kind of predicted early on, but that’s all I’m going to say about that.
