I loved this book. The ending had me in tears. Kyle’s relationship with his siblings is as heartwarming as his relationship with his father is heart-wrenching. The setting of the story is very familiar to me. In fact, the cover of the book looks like the view out of my parents’ front window. There was an island in the middle of the bay in front of my house that I always wanted to explore (just like Kyle), but I never actually did (unlike Kyle). Reading Kyle’s Island made me just a little bit homesick for Northern Ontario, and that doesn’t happen every day!
