It took me awhile to get into this book. Before she ended up in Whispering Oaks, I didn’t find Ruby all that likable. The two friends that she met upon her arrival--Rabbit and Jacob--were far more interesting to me, but the more that Ruby hung out with them, the more I started to like her. When Ruby revealed her love of books and passion for words to Jacob the night that she met him, I was hooked.
What I most loved about this book was the reference to all kinds of contemporary and classic literature. I loved the poetry slam. I loved the Single Moms Book Club. I loved the Literature Club. Yay for reading, yay for writing, and yay for the power of words!!!!
Highly recommended--especially for book lovers--for grades 7-12.
