This book was a real page-turner, in spite of the narrative style. I didn’t like the way the narrator alternated between the present and flashed back to the past simply because I felt it gave too much of the story away. The characters were mostly believable and sympathetic, although the love story between Katherine and Mick was predictably doomed. The ending was redemptive, however, leaving the reader with feelings of hope instead of gloom.
