Elisabeth James’ mother died while giving birth to her, so she grows up with her sister, governess, and father. When she turns 5, Elisabeth’s father, a scientist, starts conducting experiments on her and her sister. He tells them they have “the gift,” and starts to test their abilities. Elisabeth’s sister eventually loses her gift, so she doesn’t do the tests anymore, but Elisabeth does. She is determined to hold onto her clairvoyant powers. Her father decides to take them to America so that he can conduct his research without fear of people claiming that they are witches. The ship wrecks and Elisabeth ends up in South Carolina where she meets a boy and falls in love with him. Unfortunately, her stay is cut short and she is sent to Salem to be a servant where she accidentally unleashes an evil spirit. Can she save herself and her loved ones, or will it be too late?
This is a really creative book. If you liked The Crucible, then you will love this book. The author was really descriptive and that helped me imagine it better. It had a great storyline as well.
