There are three stories to the novel. The first is about the Monkey King, a Chinese folk hero. The second is about the struggles of a Chinese-American boy trying to fit into white suburbia. The third is a sit-com starring Cousin Chin-Kee, a blatant stereotype. At the end of the book, readers see all three stories come together in an unexpected twist. Anybody who has ever struggled to fit in will be able to relate to the characters.
Highly recommended for grades 7-12.
