Holling Hoodhood is a seventh grade boy who thinks his teacher hates his guts. She makes him stay after school on Wednesdays to pound out the erasers. Finally, she lets him do something else: read Shakespeare. He thinks that she is trying to bore him to death, but he finds out that he likes it. He somehow gets himself into a situation where he has to get cream puffs for the entire class and ends up playing a fairy in a Shakespeare play to get the money. Mrs. Baker, his teacher, also helps him run track like Jessie Owens. At the end of the year, Mrs. Baker takes her whole class camping and they all work to help out around the campsite.
My favorite part was when Mrs. Baker takes them camping, because I like camping and being by the fire. I recommend this book to anyone who likes a good laugh, because it was a pretty funny book.
