The book is divided into four parts that correspond with the four seasons, and so it is fitting that Josie’s story begins in winter and ends in the fall. There are a lot of gardening references and images, thanks to Josie’s grandma’s love of tilling the land.
I liked Josie well enough, but I really liked her spunky grandma. She had a lot of words of wisdom for Josie, who was not always ready to hear them at the time, but was open to them after letting them lie fallow and germinate.
Highly recommended for grades 5-10.
