This book is about a girl named Foster McFee who lives in Memphis. Her mom is a backup singer for an Elvis impersonator. The Elvis impersonator’s name is Huck. Huck is going out with Foster’s mom, but when Foster’s mom tells Huck to leave, he gets mad. The next day Huck bursts through the window and punches Foster’s mom in the eye and gives her a black eye. After that Foster and her mom move to Culpepper, Virginia.
Foster loves to bake and wants to become famous for it. Her favorite baker, Sonny Kroll, ends up in the hospital after a motorcycle accident. Foster wants to write him a letter but she doesn’t know how to read or write. A famous actress, Charlena Hendley, is helping her. Her friend Malcolm and her mom are helping too. Instead of writing a letter to Sonny, Malcolm says he’ll videotape her and put it on the internet and send Sonny an email to look up the video. In the end, Sonny sends Foster a thank you letter and her mom becomes a famous singer.
My favorite part of this book was when Foster’s mom put on a concert. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to make a difference and anyone who loves to bake because Foster is a baker and she makes a difference with her cupcakes.
